A local area network or LAN is a set of devices connected together in order to share resources. A wide area network or WAN is a group of LANs connected together, usually over a large distance. The Internet is an example of a WAN. Watch this animation to find out more:

The Internet and the WWW

The Internet is a huge network of interconnected networks all over the world. The World Wide Web (WWW) is a method of accessing material over the internet; this material is normally in the form of web pages that are stored on web servers connected to the Internet. Web pages are written in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language).
